Temporary Guardianship

In Emergency situations, a person can become the temporary legal guardian of a minor. The temporary legal guardian usually serves in this role until the Judge makes a final determination on a petition for appointment of a guardian.

Further, a temporary guardianship can only be requested on or after the filing of a petition for appointment of a guardian. (Probate § 2250). Note: A temporary guardianship is often filed at the same time as a petition for appointment of guardian.
