Guardianship of the Person vs. Guardian of the Estate
In the guardianship of the person, the Probate Judge appoints an adult to have custody of a minor. The “guardian of the person” is responsible for the minor in regard to their schooling, medical care, minor's conduct, and making sure the minor has proper housing, clothing and food.
In a “Guardianship of the Estate”, the Probate Judge appoints an adult to manage the minor's property. Guardianships of the Estate are usually sought when the minor has significant assets such as a large inheritance.
